Avison and Higher Education under Japanese Occupation -The Severance and Choson Christian College -

Abstract
In America, Avison worked raising funds to establish a university. He went back to Korea in 1932, and he began to prepare for retirement. Although he could not realize his dream found a university, the ¡®Koreanization`` of Western medicine was going along well. In 1934, he resigned his position as head teacher of Severance and Yeonhee College. The next year, he left Korea to return to his native country. Avison founded the base of higher education by the universal spirit of humanity. Additionally, he deserves to receive high praise for trying to realize the soul of university in the field of Korean education that meets the challenges of technical education that the Japanese Government General of Korea suggested.
